The importance of 'Best Practice' is echoed throughout the IT industry. However, is implementing best practice always the best solution for organization's needs? This paper looks at the benefits best practice can bring to test process and will also appraise the case for adopting 'Good Practice' as a more pragmatic solution. Testing is of paramount importance to verify an application will function as it should and will provide the business with the benefit it was developed for. An unsuccessful testing project may allow a sub standard application to go live which will damage the reputation of the IT department which implemented it and that of the organization which developed it (if a third party).
